Awards

The ATHE Awards Committee is responsible for coordinating nine prestigious awards that recognize excellence in educational and professional theatre. These include awards for

• Outstanding Book
• Outstanding Article in a Journal
• Excellence in Editing
• The Jane Chambers Playwriting Award
• The David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award
• Award for Leadership in Community-Based Theatre and Civic Engagement
• The Career Achievement Awards in Professional Theatre and Educational Theatre
• The Outstanding Teacher of Theatre in Higher Education
• Awards given in conjuction with the National Student Playwriting contest co-sponsored with the Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival

To nominate an individual for any of these awards except for the playwriting and Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival Awards, please visit this page. Awards nominations are due by February 15.

Nominations in each area are reviewed and voted upon by sub-committees composed of a small group of ATHE members. The two Career Achievement Awards are reviewed and voted upon by the Chairs of the Sub-committees and one representative from the Focus Groups. The Awards are presented in a ceremony at the annual national conference each year.
